Car Rental
We highly recommend renting a car during your stay in the Bay Area. Public transportation is available and useful, but the region is large, and many places are much easier to reach by car.
For convenience, consider renting directly from the airport upon arrival, such as San Francisco International Airport or Oakland International Airport.
You may hear mixed opinions about the Bay Area, but like any city, it is generally safe if you stay aware of your surroundings. One local issue to keep in mind is car break-ins, often called “bipping.” The simplest way to avoid problems is to leave nothing visible in your car when you park.
